At JC Glass, we deal with glass every day and over time, we have built up a few tips for getting windows clean!
CLEAN IN THREE EASY STEPS
1. WIPE DOWN WINDOW
Remove dust, spiders and dirt from your windows first with a microfibre cloth! This is key to avoiding dust from building up as gunk on your cloth after you’ve sprayed the window with cleaning solution.
2. CLEAN WINDOW
Grab a clean microfibre cloth and dip it in your cleaning solution. Start scrubbing the window from the top down to avoid any dirty drips from ruining your clean window.
3. SQUEEGEE AND WIPE DOWN WINDOW
Use a squeegee to remove excess solution from the window, working from top to bottom. Make sure to shake off and wipe down the squeegee regularly with a clean cloth to avoid the saturating the squeegee.
PREPARE THE AREA
Before you get cleaning, prepare the area by removing furniture, decorative ornaments and anything else that might get in your way while you clean.
This will ensure you can get stuck into the cleaning without the worry of ruining your couch or trying to work around an object.
CHOOSE A CLOUDY DAY
If you’re the kind of person who usually ends up with streaks when you clean, you’ll love this tip.
When it is hot, everything dries incredibly quick, which can result in those annoying streaks. By getting out your cleaning supplies on a cloudy day, you will have more drying time and hopefully, fewer streaks.
USE A MICROFIBRE CLOTH
Put down the paper towel and pick up a microfibre cloth!
Microfibre cloths don’t just pick up dirt and dust particles, they also work well for scrubbing the window and drying any remaining window cleaner.
WIPE DOWN SILLS AND SASHES FIRST
Use a cobweb brush and a cloth to tackle the dust, dirt and anything else that might be calling your window or windowsill home.
Work your way from top to bottom to ensure that any dust you unsettle doesn’t fall where you’ve just cleaned.
By removing the dust first, you can give your window a proper clean without dragging dust around on your cloth.
CLEAN THE TRACKS
Get stuck into the tracks of your window with a vacuum or toothbrush to give them a good clean.
A narrow head vacuum attachment will do the trick but using an old toothbrush will really allow you to get into the crevices in the track for a more in-depth clean.
SKIP SPECIALISED CLEANERS AND BE GENEROUS WITH DETERGENT
You can’t use “we’ve run out of window cleaner” as an excuse to not clean your windows anymore, sorry!
Our top tip for cleaning windows is to add a couple of drops of liquid detergent to a bucket with warm water and give it a good mix.
If your window is particularly greasy, add some vinegar or methylated spirits to your detergent solution to cut through the grime.
